<p>Twitter co-founder <a href="http://www.twitter.com/biz">Biz Stone</a> just announced the launch of &#8220;Phase One&#8221; of a Re-tweet API called<a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/08/13/twitter-announces-a-retweeting-api/"> &#8220;Project Retweet&#8221;</a> on the <a href="http://blog.twitter.com/2009/08/project-retweet-phase-one.html">Twitter blog</a>.</p>
<p>Aside from the fact that this actually seems pretty rad (<em>buh bye</em> copying and pasting!) one of the most striking (<a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=imho">IMHO)</a> things about the post is how skillfully Biz has drawn the impromptu API mock-up.</p>
<div id="attachment_112" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://alexiatsotsis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/retweet.png"><img src="http://alexiatsotsis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/retweet-300x225.png" alt="Artwork by Biz Stone" title="retweet" width="300" height="225" class="size-medium wp-image-112" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Artwork by Biz Stone</p></div>
<p>It&#8217;s beautifully rendered and makes me wish (albeit briefly) for a <a href="http://twitter.com/biz/status/3293729739">hand-drawn sketch version </a>of the popular micro-blogging service. Hey if this Twitter thing doesn&#8217;t work out, maybe Biz could hit up the art world?</p>

<p>I was<a href="http://twitter.com/alexiatsotsis/status/3175306618"> joking about this last week</a> and then it actually happened. Now I&#8217;m thinking www.bitchstolemytweet.com should be a place when people can register complaints:</p>
<p><img src="http://alexiatsotsis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/picture-10-300x158.png" alt="picture-10" title="picture-10" width="300" height="158" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-84" /></p>
<p>For example, Michael Arrington (<a href="http://twitter.com/arrington/status/3233309457">@arrington</a>) &#8220;stole my tweet&#8221; about a <a href="http://blogs.laweekly.com/style_council/isociety/facebook-buys-friendfeed/">LAWeekly.com article</a> today and attributed it to Facebook, by making it look like<a href="http://www.twitter.com/facebook"> @facebook</a> had actually re-tweeted it.</p>
<p><img src="http://alexiatsotsis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/picture-9-300x157.png" alt="picture-9" title="picture-9" width="300" height="157" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-80" /></p>
<p><img src="http://alexiatsotsis.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/picture-7-300x182.png" alt="picture-7" title="picture-7" width="300" height="182" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-79" /><br />
<span id="more-78"></span><br />
But Facebook had not tweeted that at ALL (you can check their Twitter stream <a href="http://www.twitter.com/facebook">here</a>, I even checked Twitter search in case they had deleted), which leads me to believe that something is wrong in the state of Twitter, or at least in the state of <a href="http://www.twitter.com/arrington">@arrington</a>.</p>
<p><em>Update: Michael Arrington politely <a href="http://twitter.com/arrington/status/3239403832">apologizes for &#8220;tweet-stealing&#8221; in record time.</a> See how a way to hold people accountable in real-time might be a useful thing?</em></p>

Basically, the Internet&#8217;s most popular social networking sites broke. Web sites that were down yesterday included:</p>
<p>Facebook, Livejournal, YouTube, Google, and the one that got the most spotlight, Twitter. (Gizmodo and Xbox Live were also down for those that are all about being thorough.) What&#8217;s missing?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com">MySpace.</a></p>
<p>Reuter&#8217;s blogger Alexei Oreskovic called the fact that the L.A. based social networking site was left out of the attacks a &#8220;stinging slap in the face.&#8221;</p>
<p>He continued, &#8220;Perhaps the malefactors didn&#8217;t deem MySpace a target worthy of attention. MySpace&#8217;s popularity has waned at a time when Facebook and Twitter have experienced massive user growth.&#8221;</p>
