Twitter co-founder Biz Stone just announced the launch of “Phase One” of a Re-tweet API called “Project Retweet” on the Twitter blog.

Aside from the fact that this actually seems pretty rad (buh bye copying and pasting!) one of the most striking (IMHO) things about the post is how skillfully Biz has drawn the impromptu API mock-up.

It’s beautifully rendered and makes me wish (albeit briefly) for a hand-drawn sketch version of the popular micro-blogging service. Hey if this Twitter thing doesn’t work out, maybe Biz could hit up the art world?

I was joking about this last week and then it actually happened. Now I’m thinking www.bitchstolemytweet.com should be a place when people can register complaints:

For example, Michael Arrington (@arrington) “stole my tweet” about a LAWeekly.com article today and attributed it to Facebook, by making it look like @facebook had actually re-tweeted it.

But Facebook had not tweeted that at ALL (you can check their Twitter stream here, I even checked Twitter search in case they had deleted), which leads me to believe that something is wrong in the state of Twitter, or at least in the state of @arrington.

Update: Michael Arrington politely apologizes for “tweet-stealing” in record time. See how a way to hold people accountable in real-time might be a useful thing?

disco_ballpreview2Yesterday, if you were searching for a short-form, self-indulgent way to describe what you had for breakfast, you were shit out of luck. Basically, the Internet’s most popular social networking sites broke. Web sites that were down yesterday included:

Facebook, Livejournal, YouTube, Google, and the one that got the most spotlight, Twitter. (Gizmodo and Xbox Live were also down for those that are all about being thorough.) What’s missing?

MySpace.

Reuter’s blogger Alexei Oreskovic called the fact that the L.A. based social networking site was left out of the attacks a “stinging slap in the face.”

He continued, “Perhaps the malefactors didn’t deem MySpace a target worthy of attention. MySpace’s popularity has waned at a time when Facebook and Twitter have experienced massive user growth.”
